The photographer, as an artist, does not promise to show you reality. That is not the magic of photography.
The magic of photography is the ability to capture a moment in time, still, a real moment, from unique point of view. And then to present it as they envision it.
It does not end the moment the shutter clicks.
I remember walking through a small town in Mexico with my then-partner. When we got back to our hostel, I showed him the pictures that I was going to post and he couldn’t figure out when or where I had taken them. We were walking side-by-side the whole time.
There is truly magic in the ability to be able to draw out a detail from the world and give that one detail its own spotlight. To show others the simple joys that catch your eye.
What do you see beyond what is matter-of-factly placed before you?
I don’t pretend to be an expert, or even a professional, but I find the subject fascinating. And regardless, here are some of my photographs, organized loosely by location and/or topic:
